DIS RAIL, d.o.o.

Railway transport interoperability and its associated infrastructure represent one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the EU in terms of harmonizing product requirements. Here are some of the advantages of railway transport:

  • reduction of environmental impact (e.g. lower carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), reduced noise pollution, and greater efficiency per ton of transported freight);
  • higher efficiency comapred to road transport, particularly over longer distances and with larger volumes of cargo;
  • one of the safest modes of transportation;
  • the industry supporting rail transport is among the most progressive in both the EU and globally.

To facilitate easier connectivity among European countries at the level of rail transport and to ensure high safety standards, the EU has adopted the Directive (EU) 2016/797 on the interoperability of the rail system within the European Union. This directive, along with associated technical guidelines for individual subsystems and related harmonized standards, provides a basis for railway equipment and infrastructure manufacturers to design and produce products in accordance with requirements that are consistent throughout the EU. The compliance of these designed and manufactured products can be verified by notified bodies whose documentation is valid across the Community.

DIS RAIL is a Notified Body (NB 2508) in accordance with Directive (EU) 2016/797. As a notified body, we carry out conformity assessment and certification of the INFRASTRUCTURE subsystem.

In our work, we apply the provisions of the directive, specific Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs), and associated harmonized standards. In addition to the Technical Specifications for Interoperability for the infrastructure subsystem (TSI INF), we also take into account the specifications related to:

  • technical specifications for interoperability relating to accessibility of the Union's rail system for persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility (TSI PRM);
  • technical specification for interoperability relating to safety in railway tunnels of the rail system of the European Union (TSI SRT).

DIS RAIL is a Designated Body (DeBo) in accordance with the Railway Transport Safety Act. As DeBo we provide conformity assessment and certification of the INFRASTRUCTURE and CONTROL-COMMAND AND SIGNALLING TRACKSIDE subsystem in accordance with national rules.

Conformity Assessment

We conduct conformity assessment procedures according to the conformity assessment modules defined in each technical specification. In cases where certain procedures cannot be carried out in-house, we collaborate with recognized European notified bodies with whom we have cooperation agreements.

Documents issued by DIS RAIL as a notified body are recognized in all EU member states and provide manufacturers with a basis for preparing the EC Declaration of Conformity for their products.
